Ocean Paradise Hotel & Resort, a luxury hotel in Cox’s Bazar, organised an event marking the Bengali new year on April 14, 2024.
The event, titled ‘Boishakhi Utshob’, took place at the hotel premises, according to a press release.
The event started with a Boishakhi rally by the hotel staff. The hotel premises were decorated with colourful designs and stalls portraying a Boishakhi Mela for guests and tourists residing there.
The District Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran visited the hotel and opened the Mela (fair) with Chairman LN M N Karim.
OPL Borshoboron Utshob 1431 had a range of Bangali food platters to entertain guests by offering ‘Shotopoder Boishakhi Bhuribhojer Ayojon’ (100 items of Boishakh food) including the most popular Bengali New Year food, ‘Panta Ilish’.
Games and activities like pillow passing and drawing competition among kids were also organised to mark the event.
Books and paintings were given as gifts to participants, and a raffle draw was arranged to give the grand prize of a diamond ring.
The evening was lit by a musical performance by the popular Bangla band Joler Gaan.
Ocean Paradise is the only hotel in Cox's Bazar that has been celebrating Pohela Boishakh and Falgun since 2011 in a grand scale and this year was the first since the Corona virus pandemic.
