Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjad Ali on Sunday said that cattle market leaseholders will not be allowed to collect taxes beyond government fixed rates.
He also warned that stern legal action will be taken against those who forcibly take cattle-carrying vehicles to a different market than the vehicles are designated for.
"The cattle markets will be allowed in designated places set by city corporations, and if anyone tries to set up a cattle market anywhere else, police officials concerned will look into it," he said.
The commissioner was speaking at a coordination meeting on overall security arrangements at the cattle markets and traffic management ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. The meeting was held at the conference room of the DMP headquarters in the city.
He also urged the leaseholders to erect barricades surrounding the cattle markets to keep the roads hassle-free.
He said that police will assist in identifying counterfeit notes, while an adequate number of law enforcing personnel will be deployed to prevent doping gang activities.
He said that district magistrates, city corporation magistrates, local police and leaseholders of the cattle markets will work in a coordinated manner.
Commissioner Sajjad Ali further said that traders will have to put up a banner in front of the trucks specifying its destination, and if necessary, will also include the mobile number of the leaseholder of the cattle market on the banner.
Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Sarwar (BPM, Service) said that legal action will be taken against anyone tried to set up cattle market on road obstructing smooth vehicular movement.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S N Md Nazrul Islam said legal action will be taken against those trying to create artificial shortage of cattle supply by spreading rumors.
