Pathao, one of the country’s leading ride-sharing platforms, has rolled out a new feature called Pathao Connect, designed to make offline rides safer and more reliable for users, according to a media statement Tuesday.
Announcing the launch, the company said that while ride-sharing apps have brought structure and safety to urban transport, a growing number of people still rely on off-platform rides. Industry estimates suggest that more than 60 per cent of daily bike rides in Bangladesh now take place outside ride-sharing apps–leaving both passengers and riders vulnerable due to the lack of tracking, verification, and protection.
To address these risks, Pathao Connect allows users and riders, even when they are low on data, to link an offline ride to the Pathao platform using a simple code or one-time password (OTP). Once connected, the ride becomes trackable, rider information is stored securely, and Pathao’s safety features–including live location sharing, driver verification, and free trip safety coverage—are automatically activated.
The company said the new feature provides flexibility similar to regular offline rides, allowing passengers to negotiate fares directly with riders and pay in cash, without any extra charges. But unlike unmonitored trips, Pathao Connect ensures that every ride remains within the company’s secure system.
Another added benefit is that riders using Pathao Connect earn Pathao Points, which can be redeemed for discounts on future rides, along with access to exclusive offers and perks, according to the statement.
Founded in 2015, Pathao has grown into the largest digital services platform in Bangladesh, with over 10 million users and operations spanning ride-sharing, food delivery, and e-commerce logistics. The company says it has created over 500,000 job opportunities in the country, supporting both the digital economy and everyday livelihoods.
