Pioneer Insurance Company Ltd unanimously elects Mr Zakir Ahmed Khan as Chairman

Mr. Zakir Ahmed Khan, a former Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, was unanimously elected as Chairman of Pioneer Insurance Company Limited, in the 245th meeting of the Board of Directors held on Sunday (11 May), for the year 2025 - 2026.
He carries with him vast experience and expertise gathered from home and abroad. Currently, he is serving as Chairman of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), according to a press release.
Mr. Khan earned his BA (Hons) and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Dhaka in 1967 and 1968 respectively.
He studied Development Economics and Development Administration as a Hubert Humphrey North-South Fellow at the Colorado State University, USA.
He also obtained a Master of Business Administration from Vrije Universiteit, Brussels, Belgium.
Before joining the Government Service in 1970, he briefly worked as a Research Associate in the Bureau of Economic Research and Institute of Education and Research and also a Lecturer in Economics, University of Dhaka. Additionally, he worked as a part time Lecturer in the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka.
Mr. Khan retired in February 2009 from the World Bank as an Alternate Executive Director representing Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Srilanka. He served as Finance Secretary and Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue for about five years.
Throughout his career in the govt. service he held various senior level positions in Ministries of Establishment, Finance, Energy, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Commerce and Cabinet Division. He also briefly worked with several UN organisations. Following his retirement he has been associated with a number of reputed private sector organisations as Independent Director.
He contributed a number of articles on public policy and public sector financial management to a number of national and international journals. He also delivered several keynote presentations on public sector reforms and financial management in seminars and workshops at home and abroad.
