The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of privately supplied liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for June, lowering the retail price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk 55 to Tk 1,885.
The new rates will take effect from 6pm on Tuesday, according to a BERC pricing notification.
The BERC said Saudi Aramco had set propane prices for June at $760 per tonne and butane prices at $820 per tonne.
Based on a 35:65 propane-butane mix, the average Saudi Contract Price (CP) stands at $799 per tonne.
The commission also considered shipping costs and trader premiums of $200 per metric tonne, along with an average exchange rate of Tk 122.81 per US dollar, in determining the revised prices.
Under the new rates, the retail consumer price of private LPG has been fixed at Tk 157.06 per kg.
Accordingly, cylinder prices have been set at:
5.5kg: Tk 864
12.5kg: Tk 1,963
15kg: Tk 2,356
16kg: Tk 2,513
18kg: Tk 2,827
20kg: Tk 3,141
22kg: Tk 3,455
25kg: Tk 3,927
30kg: Tk 4,712
33kg: Tk 5,183
35kg: Tk 5,497
45kg: Tk 7,068
For LPG supplied in liquid form through reticulated systems, the price has been fixed at Tk 153.31 per kg. LPG supplied in gaseous form will cost Tk 0.34 per litre, or Tk 340.70 per cubic metre.
The consumer price of autogas has been reduced to Tk 86.93 per litre from Tk 89.52 in May.
The BERC said prices of state-owned LPG will remain unchanged.
Under an order issued on Feb 23, the consumer price of a 12.5kg cylinder at government dealer and retailer points remains Tk 776.93.
The regulator had kept the price of a 12kg private LPG cylinder unchanged at Tk 1,940 in May.
Before that, it raised the price by Tk 212 on Apr 19, after an earlier increase of Tk 387 on Apr 2.
As a result, the price of a 12kg cylinder jumped by Tk 599 in just 17 days, reaching Tk 1,940. Despite June’s reduction, the cylinder still costs Tk 544 more than it did in February.
The BERC again warned that LPG, reticulated LPG and autogas must not be sold above approved prices at any stage of the supply chain.
