Progressive Knit Alliance, the only panel contesting the BKMEA election slated for May 10, made a number of promises on Wednesday, with priority to addressing complexities related to customs, bonds, and imports of raw materials and exploring non-traditional markets for further growth of the sector.
A total of 38 candidates -- 35 from PKA and three independently -- are contesting in the BKMEA election for the term of 2025-27.
The panel, if elected, would also work with concerned government ministries and others to address the energy crisis and the withdrawal of the latest ban on yarn imports through land ports.
PKA panel leader Mohammad Hatem, also president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), announced his panel's 15-point election manifesto at a programme held on Wednesday at a city hotel.
“Diversifying both the market and the ready-made garment (RMG) items would also be on the top agenda, if elected,” he said.
The panel added that once elected, they would work to address unethical buying practices of buyers by blacklisting those.
