Qcoom clients get Tk 13m refund

Customers of the crisis-ridden online shopping platform Qcoom have got back more than Tk 13 million out of Tk 1.65 billion that remained stuck with Foster Payments.

Initially, the portal refunded more than Tk 4.0 million to 20 clients on January 24.

Senior commerce secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh opened the disbursement of the funds at his secretariat office.

On January 25, more than Tk 10 million was refunded to Qcoom clients against the goods they had ordered.

Primarily, 6,721 clients have been listed to reimburse over Tk 590 million out of the total funds from the payment gateway.

Qcoom and Foster placed a partial list of the affected customers to commerce ministry.

Mr Ghosh said it was a good start to refund money to Qcoom customers. The remainder will be paid back in phases in the next few days.

Earlier, the ministry and the authorities concerned took multiple steps in the wake of scandals by dubious e-commerce portals like Evaly, E-orange, Dhamaka Shopping, Sirajganj Shop and their likes.

Currently, more than Tk 3.95 billion remains deposited with Foster, additional secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman said at the inauguration of the disbursement programme.

Government agencies concerned have been working to pay back the money that was paid in advance by customers from July 01 until October 14 last year.

More than Tk 2.14 billion got stuck with different service-providing firms, including SSL, shurjoMukhi, Foster, bKash, Nagad and Southeast Bank.
