The city development authority RAJUK has taken the move for developing its Purbachal water supply system under a public-private partnership (PPP) project, with opening bids for this on July 11.

It provides relief to owners of 25000 residential plots who have been waiting for years for the utility services to be completed in the new town.

The project, which had just been in the planning stages for several years, is now expected to be implemented within next year.

RAJUK, in conjunction with the PPP Authority, has also engaged IFC and Mott MacDonald as advisors and consultants to ensure transparency and quality of works in the project.

One of the largest water companies of China, UNITED WATER, has been found to be the responsive bidder with a local JV partner and its financial offer to be well within the expected budget.

The water supply project will attract a significant amount of foreign direct investment, required to build and maintain the water network. The private company will be tasked with maintaining the network for 15 years.

The PPP project is directly under the PMO, and it is a key initiative of the government. Future investors are also closely monitoring the development of this project.
