Manpower recruiters have called for a reduction in airfares for outbound Bangladeshi workers, in order to facilitate sending the workers smoothly to their job destination countries.

They also demanded special flights for the workers, who are currently waiting to go abroad.

The recruiters placed the demands at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Wednesday, organised by the Sammilito Shamannay Parishad of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA).

They said airfares had increased significantly in recent times; so, around 50,000 workers, who were waiting to catch a suitable flight, were facing troubles.

The airfares of different routes to Middle Eastern countries have recently increased to Tk 75,000-90,000 from Tk 40,000-50,000.

In the press meet, the manpower recruiters made a set of demands, including introducing labour fares for migrant workers.

The Parishad sought fixing the limit of airfares under the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB).

The recruiters said it was necessary to create 'a model of airfare' by the Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Then the authorities have to ensure that the foreign airlines follow the model set by Biman, they said.

If the number of outbound workers increases suddenly in any route, Biman should arrange special flights for them.

The recruiters also demanded that any advance group tickets were not issued to any travel agency; rather the unsold seats of all airlines should be made visible online.
