The government has asked garment factory owners to pay monthly wages and Eid bonuses to the workers before the Eid holiday starts.
State Minister for Labour Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury made the instruction at the meeting of the tripartite consultative committee on the readymade garment industry held at Srama Bhaban in the city on Wednesday.
He also instructed the factory owners not to terminate any workers and announced layoffs of units before Eid.
Labour Secretary Mahbub Hossain, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Inspector General Abdur Rahim Khan, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Executive President Mohammad Hatem, among others, were present at the meeting.
