Readymade garment (RMG) workers will get 50 per cent of their basic pay as festival allowance before Eid-ul-Fitr, while the rest 50 per cent will be paid after the eid.

The decision was taken at a tripartite meeting presided over by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city on Saturday, meeting sources said.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Dr Rubana Huq, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA) President AKM Salim Osman, labour leaders Nazma Akter, Babul Akhter, Sirajul Islam Rony, among others, were present in the meeting.

As per the decision, 50 per cent of the basic will be paid before Eid and the rest 50 per cent will be given as per the capability of factory owners within the next six months, Dr Rubana Huq said after the meeting.

Earlier in a meeting on Thursday, RMG factory owners proposed to pay 50 per cent of basic as festival allowance.

Labour leaders opposed the proposal while State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian called the factory owners to pay full basic as festival allowance.
