Shipping Adviser Brig General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain has inaugurated a newly built cargo vehicle terminal (CVT) at Benapole Land Port in Jashore district.

"A huge number of trucks carrying Indian imports will be stationed at the CVT at a time alongside Bangladeshi trucks loaded with export goods bound for India," he said this while inaugurating the terminal on Thursday.

The adviser said a major portion of our by-road export-import business is run through the Benapole Land Port but the Indian goods laden trucks used to create traffic jams on the road as there was no cargo terminal in the port, reports UNB.

On an average, 500 to 600 Indian goods laden trucks entered into Benapole and 450 to 500 goods laden trucks entered into India from Bangladesh, Sakhawat said, adding that the normal activities of the port were badly hampered due to the traffic congestion and mismanagement in the port.

The efficiency of the port would be increased a lot through the inauguration of the port and the turnover time of the transports would be reduced drastically, he said, adding that the earnings of the port would also be increased significantly through the implementation of the project
