Salim Osman becomes BKMEA president for sixth term in a row

AKM Salim Osman has become president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) for the term of 2021-23, the sixth term in a row.

Mohammad Hatem and Mansoor Ahmed were elected as executive president and senior vice president, the newly created posts, respectively.

The vice presidents elected for the 2021-23 term are: Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Amal Podder, Gauhar Siraj Jamil, Akhter Hossain Apurbo, Ashikur Rahman and Morshed Sarwar Sohel (finance).

The newly-elected 35-member board of directors was announced Monday at the trade body’s Dhaka office in the city, according to a statement. 

The BKEMA, at its last annual general meeting, increased its director posts to 35 from 27 with creating the executive president and senior vice president posts. The body also incorporated the extended posts in the memorandum at the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies through the Ministry of Commerce.

During the 10th board meeting on 14 August, the BKMEA formed an election board and election appeal board for the biennial election for the term of 2021-23.

The election board announced the schedule for the election on August 17. According to the election schedule, October 3 and 4 were announced as the dates for nomination paper submission.

The election was scheduled to be held on November 12.

Sammilita Knit Forum, led by Salim Osman, submitted nomination papers for its 35 candidates as per the deadline and there was no opponent candidate.

As per the Trade Organisation Ordinance, the candidates of the Sammilita Knit Forum were elected unopposed as there were no opponents, the statement added.
