Seminar on financial literacy begins tomorrow

A four-day long regional seminar on 'Financial Literacy and Investment Protection' begins Monday in the capital.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the seminar at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, while the finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will also attend the opening ceremony.

The objective of the seminar is to enhance the financial literacy and protection of the investors of the capital market. The representatives of 10 other countries will attend the seminar.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are organising the seminar as part of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Financial Regulators Training Initiative (APEC FRTI).

Mohammad Saifur Rahman, a BSEC executive director, announced the program schedule at a press briefing at the BSEC office on Saturday.

According to Rahman, the representatives of India, Japan, Philippines, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Iceland will attend the seminar.

"So far we attended such type of seminar held in other countries. Now we are able to organise same programme," Rahman told the press briefing.

The different sessions of four-day long progarmme will put thrust on different topics such as role of market intermediaries in promoting investors' financial literacy, corporate governance code, investors' knowledge and protection, the risk of financial products, and the collective investment scheme.
