Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, authorities have announced the closure of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. From 4:45 pm on Monday, all flights to and from the airport have been suspended.
Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam, the airport's director, confirmed the matter.
He said, "From 4:45 pm on Monday, flights at Shahjalal International Airport have been suspended. We have not yet received any instructions regarding the resumption of flights. Further information will be provided as directives are received."
Earlier on Monday afternoon, Sheikh Hasina submitted her resignation to the President and left the country, after which the army took control. At an emergency meeting in the capital's Cantonment at 3:50 pm, Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman disclosed this information.
He announced, "An interim government will be formed to govern the country. I have taken responsibility for the safety and security of the people. Do not lose hope. All your demands will be fulfilled."
