The project director of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Dr Mohammad Shawkat Akbar has been appointed chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) as of Thursday.
Mr Akbar has been supervising the implementation of the country’s maiden under-construction nuclear power plant at Ishwardi in Pabna since the very beginning of its construction.
Bangladesh hopes to load nuclear fuel into the 2,400-megawatt Rooppur nuclear power plant for electricity generation by late 2024 as Russia has completed its supply by air through leapfrogging shipping sanctions, said sources.
BAEC, a state-run entity under the science and technology ministry, is implementing the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
