Shopping malls, markets witness huge rush ahead of Eid

Shopping malls and markets across the city on Friday witnessed a huge rush of shoppers as the largest religious festival of the Muslims, the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, is approaching nearer.

Eid shoppers flocked to shopping hubs, like Bashundhora City Shopping Mall, Jamuna Future Park and New Market of the capital city. They came with friends and families to pick up dresses, putting smile on the traders’ faces, reports BSS.

The rush also caused traffic jams at several points close to the shopping malls, especially in the afternoon and evening hours, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Businessmen expressed satisfaction over the sale of the Eid clothes, shoes, cosmetics and other goods and hoped that the sales would continue till the night before the Eid-ul-Fitr day.

Braving the heat, hawkers also made brisk sale of clothes, footwear, imitation ornaments and cosmetics and other goods as these products are generally purchased by low-income people ahead of Eid.

Talking to BSS, Manager of the Dress Line Bangladesh Abdul Latif Shahin said “We are facing huge rush of shoppers over the last few days. Women shoppers are more in number and children’s products are also in high demand.”

He informed that they are doing both wholesale and retail businesses through different outlets across the city.

 “After Shab-e-Barat, our wholesale business started. This year, our business is very good. Like earlier, many retailers from different district towns and divisional cities have collected our products,” he added.

Now, he said, a huge number of buyers are crowding in their different retail outlets, including Bashundhara City, since morning to midnight for collecting different modern and exclusive Eid collections of Dress Line.

A seller of the New Market, who sells garments for women and kids, said, “Most people are making huge purchases of all products, including garments, cosmetics, shoes and some of them are spending lavishly.”

Many Eid shoppers also complained of overpricing, especially of women and kids wear.

 “I come from Feni with my family for shopping. I have completed shopping for this Eid. Today, I have bought clothes for my two kids and wife,” said Rasheduzzaman, a businessman of the Feni district town, who with his sons and wife came to shop at Bashundhara City Shopping mall today.

 “I have come to new market to buy panjabis and saris for my parents and relatives who live in my village home. I will leave for village home in Comilla next week to enjoy Eid with my family,” said Shahjan Kabir Heron, a private service holder.

Female shoppers also thronged the cosmetic and imitation jewelry shops. “I came to the market to buy a pair of earrings to match with my Eid dress,” said Asma Akter, a house wife, who bought a pair of earrings for Taka 1,500 from Gawchhia Market.
