SOS Children's Villages empowers 200 underprivileged young entrepreneurs in Bangladesh

With the aim of encouraging underprivileged young entrepreneurs, SOS Children's Villages International Bangladesh has helped 200 underprivileged young entrepreneurs from Chattogram and Bogura achieve economic self-reliance. The main results of the 'Youth Entrepreneurship and Skills Training Project' were highlighted at an event titled "Entrepreneurship and Basic Skills Training for 200 Youths in Bogura and Chattogram to Ensure a Sustainable Source of Income," organised by SOS Children's Villages International and funded by the Bestseller Foundation at a city hotel on Monday, according to a press statement.
The event was held at Hotel Bengal Blueberry in Dhaka. The programme was honoured by the presence of Ms Nasreen Afroz, Executive Chairman (Secretary) of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), Government of Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest. Additionally, Mr Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director of SME Foundation, attended as the special guest.
Ms Alif Rudaba, Additional Secretary of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), was present as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Dr Md Enamul Haque, National Director of SOS Children's Villages International Bangladesh; Ms Tahera Yasmin, Chairperson of the Advisory Committee; Project Director Dr Md Ashraf Hossain; and other senior officials.
Project Director Dr Md Ashraf Hossain presented detailed information and data on the scope of the project titled "Entrepreneurship and Basic Skills Training for 200 Youths in Bogura and Chattogram to Ensure a Sustainable Source of Income" to the guests at the event. This project has been instrumental in providing customised training sessions, logistical support to establish businesses, and continuous assistance to ensure a stable income for the participants. The initiative has already contributed to the economic empowerment of the youths and their families in Bogura and Chattogram. Several young people present at the event shared their experiences and how their families are now living a comfortable life.
Dr Md Enamul Haque, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh, commented in his opening remarks, "We are proud of the achievements of the participants and grateful for the support from the Bestseller Foundation. This project has not only empowered the youths but also brought positive changes to their families and communities."
Ms Alif Rudaba, Additional Secretary of NSDA, stated, "This initiative is a testament to the power of skill development and entrepreneurship in transforming lives. The success stories of these youths inspire us to continue our efforts in creating sustainable economic opportunities for all." She encouraged the participants by introducing them to several different training institutions at the government, local, and central levels.
Mr Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director of SME Foundation, remarked, "The impact of this project on the lives of these young individuals is truly remarkable. It highlights the importance of providing the right support and resources to nurture entrepreneurial talent and drive economic growth." He emphasised ensuring the sustainability of the training received and encouraged the participants to progress further.
Ms Tahera Yasmin, Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh, stated in her closing remarks, "We are deeply inspired by the enthusiasm and dedication of our youth participants. Their journey towards economic independence is a beacon of hope for many. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed guests for their encouraging participation and invaluable insights. Their support has been instrumental in making this initiative a success."
Additionally, she emphasised the importance of addressing gender-based violence, as it is crucial for creating a safe and supportive environment for all youths. "Together, we can build a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive," she added.
