South End Sweaters receives LEED Platinum certification

South End Sweaters, a sweater concern of Team Group,  got LEED Platinum certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

With receiving the USGBC certification, the number of green garment factories currently stands at 258, according to a statement.

Among the 258 factories in Bangladesh, some 109 are platinum rated, 133 are gold, 12 are silver and four are certified.

To achieve a platinum rate,  a factory must secure at least an 80 score out of 110, for gold 60 to 79 score, for silver 50 to 59 score and for certified 40 to 49 score. 

The South End Sweaters achieved 85 scores, it added.

With South End Sweaters, Team Group now owns a total of three LEED certified factories – as its outerwear concern 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd, is also LEED Platinum and woven concern Brothers Fashion Ltd is LEED Gold certified by the USGBC.

4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd is the world’s first outerwear manufacturing company that became a signatory of the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Actions conveyed by the UNFCCC. 

Deputy managing director of Team Group Abdullah Hil Nakib said, “We have always aimed to set benchmarks not only in business standards but also in sustainability. Our efforts to achieve the LEED certifications are a testament to our commitment towards environmental sustainability.”

“Team Group believes that sustainable growth of our industry is only possible by practicing sustainability, innovation and ensuring workers’ as well as employees’ well-being,”  he added.
