A significant milestone was achieved at the Asian Dialogue Conference 2025, held in Phnom Penh, as Star Network and AFTEX signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

This strategic collaboration is set to revolutionise the apparel sector within the Asian region, fostering enhanced cooperation and sustainable growth among key players in the industry, says a press release.

The MoU was signed by Mr Fazlee Shamim EHSAN, founder board member of Star Network and Mr Albert Tan, chairman of AFTEX, on behalf of their respective organisations.

This partnership is expected to catalyze significant advancements in the regional textile sector, aligning with global sustainability goals and enhancing the competitive edge of Asian apparel manufacturers on the international stage.

The anticipated economic impact of this collaboration is substantial. By streamlining operations and adopting sustainable practices, member countries could see a reduction in costs related to energy consumption and waste management.

The MoU aims to address critical issues such as unfair purchasing conditions, decarbonization, and the implementation of sustainable trade initiatives, thereby improving the overall dynamics of apparel sourcing and manufacturing in Asia.

International partnerships like this one are vital for the future of the apparel industry, as they enable stakeholders to collectively address pressing issues such as environmental sustainability and fair trade practices. By fostering a cooperative environment, these partnerships can enhance the resilience and adaptability of the textile sector, ensuring its continued growth and contribution to the global economy.

Star Network, comprising Sustainable Textiles of the Asian Region member countries, namely Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Vietnam, has joined forces with AFTEX, the federation of organisations dedicated to promoting the textile and apparel industry across ASEAN countries.

As Star Network and AFTEX embark on this journey together, their joint efforts promise to deliver substantial benefits not only to the member countries but also to the broader international community. This MoU is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving positive change and setting new standards for the apparel industry worldwide.
