The customs authority has offered duty benefit to the local manufacturers of personal protective gears, disinfectants and masks.

It has exempted import tariffs from raw materials, including filaments and fabrics, so that producers can make gears at lower costs, thus bolstering the fight against COVID-19 that has so far claimed over 300 lives in the country.

The customs wing under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a regulatory order to make the decision effective.

The tax benefit came into force on Thursday and will remain valid until June 30.

It has offered exemptions to 10 types of products from the payment of customs duty, regulatory duty, supplementary duty, value-added tax, advance tax and advance income tax.
