The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will begin its truck sale drive of some key commodities today (Sunday) across the country, the state-owned agency said in a press release.
Under the drive, around 500 poor people would be able to buy some selected essential items from each of 128 trucks every day except for Fridays.
A consumer will be entitled to buy maximum 2.0 litres of soybean oil at the rate of Tk 115 per litre, 2.0 kgs of lentil at Tk 70 per kg and 1.0 kg of sugar at Tk 80
The TCB recently raised the price of soyabean oil by Tk 15 per litre and that of lentil and sugar was Tk 10 per kg per kg under its truck sale drive.
The TCB press release said sixty trucks will operate at different points of Dhaka metropolis until September 13, 2025.
On the other hand, the key essential items will be sold in Chattogram metropolis area through 25 mobile trucks while six trucks will operate in Gazipur and 03 in Comilla cities until August 31, 2025.
Besides, 08 trucks will be deployed also in Dhaka district (outside the metropolitan area), 12 in Comilla district, four in Faridpur district, five in Patuakhali district and five in Bagerhat district .
On the other hand, the prices of essential items through 'Smart Card' will remain unchanged, according to the sources.
Apart from the truck sale drive, the TCB is operating sales drive of edible oil, sugar and lentils at subsidised prices among 'smart family card' holders.
