Foreign Advisor Md Touhid Hossain has urged Saudi businesses to pour money in Bangladesh’s port, power and energy sectors.
He made the call on Tuesday night at the launch of the Saudi Arabia–Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SABCCI) in Dhaka, where a 20-member Saudi delegation was present.
“Bangladesh welcomes Saudi investment not only in manpower but also in power plants and renewable energy,” he said.
“There is strong potential in our ports, power and energy sectors. We always welcome Saudi Arabia’s investment in such mega projects.”
The advisor underscored the interim government’s commitment to offering long-term tax exemptions, profit repatriation guarantees and a business-friendly environment for foreign investors.
The Saudi delegation was led by Sheikh Omar Abdul Hafiz Amir Baksh, head of the Majd Al Omran Group, which operates in hospitality, real estate and other sectors.
Over 200 representatives from political, business, and diplomatic circles -- including leaders from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) -- were present at the event.
Speaking at the event, Touhid said the ties between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia were rooted not just in religion or humanitarian links, but in long-standing mutual trust.
“SABCCI will take that friendship to new heights and open fresh doors for trade and investment.”
He added that the government is committed to improving the investment climate and hopes to be a partner in achieving Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
