281 Rajshahi industrial units to get gas connection

A total of 281 more industrial units are going to get gas connections in Rajshahi region.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while distributing gas-connection forms among 15 of them at regional office premises of Pashimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL) in Rajshahi on Monday as chief guest.

Liton said a total of 9,364 people have, so far, got household gas connections in Rajshahi city since June, 2013 and 21,000 others applied for the connection.

He told the meeting that necessary process of providing them the gas connection will start very soon.

Liton expressed his intent to restore the lost-beauty of the city first after getting the charge of his office on October 10 next.

“I want to regain the previous image of green and clean city through making it eye-catching one on a priority basis,” he asserted.

He said implementation of Bangabandhu Hi-tech Park here is progressing fast and employment scopes for more than 14,000 youths will be created after its successful completion.

“I have plans of setting up a five star hotel, BKSP, cricket venue, agricultural university and a heart foundation in the city,” he said.

President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Md Muniruzzaman, Managing Director of PGCL Abdul Mannan Patwary and Union Parishad Chairman Saiful Islam also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, nine industrial units were given approval for the pipeline-based gas connection, informed Abdul Mannan Patwary.

These are: Modern Plastic Industries Ltd, Jahid Aluminium Industries, Pran Agro Limited, Aroma Food Industries, Sakoa Text Ltd, M H Food and Beverage Ltd, Novo-Asia Industries Limited, Anwara Mannan Textile Mills Limited and Global Bangladesh Private Limited.

Seven other industrial units have already been given gas connection, he further said.

These are: ACI-Godrez Industries, Polash Metal, Taskin, Reget Aluminium, Bishal, Ruchita and Rajshahi Metal Industries. Besides, two others in Sirajganj, two in Bogra and one in Pabna also received permission for gas connection, he added.

In his remarks, chamber leader Muniruzzaman said the Industrial units are going to be connected with gas supply in the second phase, said a BSS report.

He terms the initiative as very positive for flourishing the industrial sector.
