The Chittagong Port Authority has raised tariffs of different service sectors of Chittagong Port.

The notification announcing the move was issued at midnight on Sunday, signed by the Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman, bdnews24.com reports.

Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk said the new tariffs took effect on Monday.

Despite objections from port users, the authorities said the tariffs are increasing by an average of 41 percent in various sectors, whereas port users had requested an increase of only 10 to 15 percent.

Port users believe the new high tariffs will increase pressure at the consumer level and also affect traders.

As per the new rules, an additional tariff of about Tk 4,400 must be paid for each 20-foot container.
