Workers have gone back to factories in the Ashulia industrial zone of Savar as the situation has calmed.
Although several factories still remain shut, authorities have indicated that they will gradually reopen them, reports bdnews24.com
The situation in the Ashulia industrial zone had been tense for some time due to an ongoing labour unrest. Despite multiple meetings, normalcy had not been restored.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, or BGMEA, had warned that factories facing unrest might be shut indefinitely.
As of Sunday, the situation has largely stabilised. By noon, 18 factories remained closed indefinitely, while two factories were on general holiday.
The Labour Grievance Monitoring Committee has visited several factories in Ashulia to address the ongoing labour disputes, according to Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Industrial Police-1.
Following a meeting with local leaders and factory owners on Friday, BGMEA decided to keep all garment factories open.
On Saturday, a total of 49 factories were closed in the region, but this number reduced to 20 on Sunday.
No new incidents were reported.
From 8am, workers disregarded the rain to reach their workplaces and resume production.
Additional police have been deployed in front of the factories to prevent any disturbances, and joint force patrols continue.
