Demand for residential halls

Updated :

JAGANNATH University students have been demonstrating for last few days demanding residential students. This is one of the largest public universities of our country, where 21000 students study. Residential accommodation for the students has been a nagging problem and the students have been suffering. One of the major reasons for insufficient student halls was lack of space around the institution. Now that the Central Jail has been shifted to Keraniganj, a huge area has been left vacant and as the space is nearby, the Jagannath University students demand that residential halls be built for them in the area. Jagannath College was founded in 1885 and later it was made a full-fledged university in 2005. The students have taken to the streets and are holding demonstration and rallies demanding construction of residential hall for the students in the vacated premises of Central Jail. The demand of the students should be given due consideration in order to solve the long standing residential problem of the students, otherwise academic activities of JnU will be hampered. The students should also resort to a peaceful way of protest, so that it does not hamper life of the common people.  I hope the stand off between the JnU students and the authority will be resolved shortly and a positive solution will come out.
