Falling flow of remittance

Published :

Updated :

It is disheartening to note that the remittance inflow to our country has gone down during the last two months by around 15 per cent, thus casting a dark shadow on our economy. We are aware that remittance has taken a downturn as worker recruitment from the Middle Eastern countries diminished over the last few years. Since there are no signs of improvement overnight, we must look for alternative markets for our immigrant workers. Bangladesh in the recent past did not often experience such negative flow of remittance which always remained healthy and steady. Hopefully the Bangladeshi migrant workers will send more remittance on the eve of the Eid-u-Azha. On the other hand, the government should extend more loans to the young entrepreneurs so that they can do business at home instead of going abroad to earn money.
Remittances of the Bangladeshi migrant workers constitute the lifeline of our economy. The government should make remittance process easy and affordable so that Bangladeshi migrants can negotiate those channels instead of taking recourse to illegal method of sending money. Bangladeshis are living and working all around the world and they are known to be honest and hard-working people.  The foreign employers prefer Bangladeshi workers to workers from other countries and we should exploit the opportunity to our own advantage.
