On December 11, Cambodia's "Khmer Times" website published an interview with former Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo. The website reported that Yeo called for resistance to the West's smearing of China and the Belt and Road Initiative, and expressed optimism about China's economic development prospects.
For example, the West claims that Sri Lanka has fallen into China's "debt trap" because of its participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, but the truth is that Sri Lanka's major foreign debts are owed to Western countries. "No Chinese company is happy to take on debts or losses, everyone has the same win-win goal, and there is no national strategy to make money-losing deals."
Yeo said the slowdown in China's economic growth is temporary, and the huge economy has great advantages thanks to its sound infrastructure and efficient connectivity network, and China's economy will continue to grow in the future.
According to Yeo, the world is moving towards a multi-polar pattern, and China's rapid rise poses challenges to Western countries on an economic level, but "this challenge does not threaten any country". In addition to China, other new "poles" have emerged that will continue to push the world toward multipolarity.
