Fuel price needs further adjustment

Published :

Updated :

IT is gratifying to note that finally the government has reduced the fuel prices.

This is an encouraging move as we do not normally see local market prices being adjusted according to changed international prices. But fuel prices should be further reduced to bring those at par with international prices to help boost economic activities in the country.

The government has done so with the best of intentions but the transport sector that enjoys unwritten immunity is yet to respond by lowering its fares and therefore the common people are yet to be benefited.

Moreover, the price of diesel should be cut down further to allow the farmers to have the benefit of lower production cost.

Reduction in oil price will increase the purchasing power of the common people and it will ultimately reduce the cost of living which is now quite high compared to the average income of the people.

Side by side, we need to increase gas and electricity production and deliver the same at competitive prices so that local and foreign investors are encouraged to invest.
