AN opinion page write-up was carried by a local daily on August 22 that welcomed the unbelievable turnaround of a 'drug-den' site to a peaceful and serene neighbourhood of Katabon locality in Dhaka city. It was indeed a great achievement of our city authorities supported by relevant public departments. As the write-up states: "On stormy afternoons, the sight of long grass undulating in an open space, right in the heart of the city was unbelievable!"

For the residents of Katabon locality this major and real-life transformation was like a 'dream come true'. If only our city-fathers could bring similar changes to other similar spots that abound in many localities of the city, life in the city will be 'a dream come true' for many residents who suffer helplessly in various localities. This should be a top priority target for our city-fathers that should get all the needed assistance and required financial support of the government authorities concerned.

This writer feels that this article should be a 'must read' memorandum for our city planners and officials in the relevant development and financial authorities in our government. Further it should be taken up on topmost priority basis by the concerned government agencies for freeing the capital and all other cities and towns of Bangladesh to uproot this malice on a top priority basis and permanently improve the scenario existing in all urban areas of Bangladesh.
