Safety first and safety always

CONSTRUCTION of an eight-storied building is going on just opposite my residence. I often see the workers are working without any kind of safety gear. I reminded them several times that working without safety gears is very risky and is also illegal. As I explained to the workers and employees of the construction site about the consequences of working without safety gears and harassment of the law enforcing agencies if an accident takes place. Happily now I see the workers are working with safety gearsand it is nice to know that they understood their responsibility and the hazard of working without safety gears. Every year, many workers die at construction sites, mostly due to working without safety gear. This is unfortunate and such accidents can be easily prevented if safety gears are used. I think the government should impose heavy fines on the Construction Company or concerned people if any worker dies while working without safety gears. If the construction companies are fined they will take necessary safety measures and make sure that their work is safe for the workers.  It is also high time that we realized that a stitch in time, saves nine.                                                                     Mohammed Sohel Hara
