Security on New Year's night

PREPARATIONS for New Year night celebrations are already on. It is the whole-hearted desire of the citizenry that the New Year be celebrated amid unmixed joy and festivity and peace should not be marred by any untoward incident or unruly elements. The law enforcers should take all possible precautions to guard against any unwanted incident taking place on the eve of the New Year. Anarchy, drink driving and rowdiness in the name of New Year celebrations must not be entertained. During the last few years, we witnessed stray incidents of anarchy and lawlessness in some places. This time we hope that the small holes here and there shall be effectively plugged and we shall have an unmixed celebration. The memory of the unfortunate incident near TSC in Dhaka University during New Year celebrations is still fresh in our minds and we do not want a repetition of similar incident or anything close to that to happen. The incident near TSC sparked a lot of anger and resentment in the society. I hope this year the citizens will be able to welcome the New Year amid joy, peace and festivity all around.
