SIM replication

THE process of making multiple identical copies (unauthorised) is called cloning. Cloning has engulfed all the technological fields making life increasingly difficult for the people of the world. SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) of mobile phones are being cloned across the world and is considered to be an advanced cyber offence in Bangladesh. The culprits who do the cloning, collect empty SIM card and replicate the details of a genuine SIM card with data reader. The details at that time are copied on the empty card. Recorded data, that is, information, picture, video and document stockpiled on the mobile phone is copied through cloning of SIM card. Cloned SIM is activated concurrently along the lines of making calls, sending text messages, and so on of the actual card. from returned missed calls, SIM card can be cloned. The cyber criminals use the cloned SIM successfully to take covers against forged identity and perpetrate any unlawful act possible to be done using the mobile phone. The danger of cyber crime/phone spoofing is rising. Now, remitting funds from one place to another through mobile phone is also a risky task. Miscreants are using the cloned cards to execute their criminal activities like extortion, fraudulence and other offences. The ministry concerned, the regulator and the law enforcement agencies should be ever vigilant to stop recurrence of such crimes.
