At least 14 people were killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents in northwest Kenya within a few hours, police said Tuesday.

Rift Valley regional traffic commandant Dorothy Muleke said that it was at 7:30 pm when a private car, which was overtaking a fleet of vehicles, collided head-on with a truck, resulting in six deaths.

Muleke also confirmed that at least eight people were killed in another road accident that involved three vehicles along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, reports Xinhua.

Muleke said the second accident occurred at around 5:40 am early Tuesday at the Ngata blackspot after a truck's brakes malfunctioned.

More than 1,000 people have died and many more have been wounded in the last three months in separate accidents across the East African nation, according to official statistics.
