After the third round of vote counting in the West Bengal legislative assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a strong lead, according to the latest updates.
As per the latest figures, the BJP is leading in 165 seats, while the ruling Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is ahead in 117 seats. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is leading in two seats, and the Indian National Congress in one.
Mamata Banerjee, who has served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal for nearly 15 years, now faces a serious challenge as her party trails in the ongoing count. Early trends indicate a possible shift in the political landscape of the state.
The West Bengal legislative assembly has a total of 294 seats, with 148 required for a majority. However, results for 293 seats are being announced, as voting in one constituency was postponed.
In the 2021 West Bengal legislative assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress won 215 seats, while the BJP secured 77. The remaining two seats were won by other parties.
