Indian Lok Sabha phase 3 polls on Apr 23

New Delhi: Sunday was the last day of election campaigning for Phase 3 of the 2019 Indian Lok Sabha elections and respective Assembly polls, report agencies.

The campaigning for the April 23 polls ended at 5 pm Sunday.

On April 23, 115 Constituencies across 12 states and 2 Union Territories will go to polls.

Another report adds, one fourth of candidates in the fray for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls are crorepatis. Political parties have fielded a total of 392 crorepati (richest person) candidates of which 81 are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The average worth of each candidate contesting the third phase is Rs 29.5 million. The richest among candidates in the third phase is Ku. Devendra Singh Yadav from Samajwadi Party.

Twenty five per cent of candidates out of 1,594 in the poll fray for the third phase are crorepatis. Among the major parties, 81 (84 per cent) out of 97 candidates from BJP, 74 (82 per cent) out of 90 candidates from Congress, 9 (90 per cent) out of 10 candidates from Samajwadi Party, 10 (53 per cent) candidates from CPI(M), 12 (13 per cent) candidates from BSP, 9 (41 per cent) candidates from Shiv Sena and 7 (70%) out of 10 candidates from NCP have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.

Among the richest candidates, Ku. Devendra Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party is at the top with Rs 204 crore worth of declared assets. He is contesting from the Etah seat in Uttar Pradesh.

He is followed by Bhonsle Shrimant Chhatrapati Udayanraje Pratapasinh Maharaj of NCP with assets worth Rs 199 crore. Pratapasinh is a candidate from Satara in Maharashtra. While congress candidate Praveen Singh Aron contesting from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh has assets worth Rs 147 crore.

Average assets per candidate contesting in phase three elections is Rs. 2.95 crore.

Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for BJP candidates is Rs 13.01 crore while for Congress it is Rs 10.96 crore. BSP candidates have average assets of Rs 1.22 crore, while Shiv Sena candidates have average assets worth Rs 2.69 crore.

CPI(M) candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.76 crore while NCP candidates have average assets worth Rs 48.49 crore. SP candidates have average assets worth Rs 28.52 crore and 9 AITC candidates have average assets of Rs 4.93 crore.

The National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed self-sworn affidavits of 1,594 of 1,612 candidates, who are contesting the phase 3 elections. There are 18 candidates who have not been analysed due to the unavailability of properly scanned and complete affidavits at the time of making this report.
