Indonesia floods death toll rises to 442

The death toll from recent floods and landslides across three provinces on Indonesia's Sumatra Island has risen to 442, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said on Sunday.

BNPB Chief Suharyanto said at a press briefing that North Sumatra recorded the highest number of casualties. "The number of fatalities in North Sumatra has reached 217, with another 209 still missing," he said. "During today's operation in South Tapanuli Regency, many more victims were found."

He added that Aceh Province reported 96 deaths and 75 missing, while West Sumatra recorded 129 deaths and 118 missing, reports Xinhua.

According to Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that all national resources be reinforced and focused on emergency response as quickly as possible.
