Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah and the cessation of the Israeli "aggression" against Lebanon.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the ministry on the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, which took effect Wednesday at 4:00 am local time (0200 GMT), Baghaei expressed Iran's "decisive" support for the Lebanese government and people, stressing the necessity to immediately stop the war against Gaza and Lebanon, reports AP.
He noted that Israel's "warmongering and crimes, which have had the all-out support of the United States and certain European governments," have resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians and the displacement of millions of people in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The ceasefire agreement was approved by Israel's security cabinet on Tuesday night, the Israeli prime minister's office said in a statement.
According to the deal, the Lebanese army will take control of the territory near its border with Israel over the next 60 days and Israel will gradually withdraw its troops from the region.
