At least one of the 20 ballistic missiles launched by Iran at Israel on Thursday carried a cluster bomb warhead, Al Jazeera reported, citing The Times of Israel and the Israeli military’s Home Front Command.
According to the report, such warheads break apart during descent, scattering multiple smaller munitions. One of the submunitions struck a home in the central Israeli town of Azor, causing damage, Al Jazeera said.
The Doha-based broadcaster also cited a journalist from The Times of Israel who wrote on social media platform X that Iran has previously claimed to possess Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles (MIRVs) and other missiles capable of deploying submunitions, enabling a single missile to strike several targets.
The Israeli army has warned civilians not to approach missile debris found on the ground, as unexploded munitions may still pose a danger, Al Jazeera added, quoting The Times of Israel.
