Strong tremors were felt in many parts of north India on Thursday morning as people ran out of their houses in panic. The tremors lasted around 10 seconds, reports Xinhua.
The estimated magnitude of the quake was around 4.4 on the Richter scale, which measures the magnitude of earthquakes. According to the National Institute of Seismology, the earthquake's depth was 10 km.
After the earthquake struck at 9.04 am (local time), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) put out an advisory. It asked people not to panic, run outside and take the stairs while doing so, according to Indian media reports.
The NDRF also had a piece of advice for those driving when the quake hits: pull over at an open space.
