TVK crosses majority mark in Tamil Nadu, Vijay eyes CM post

Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single-largest party, with trends showing it leading in 151 seats, Hindustan Times reports.

While the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-Congress coalition is ahead in 40 seats and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) + in 36 constituencies, analytics portal's data showed at 2pm, according to the report.

The Election Commission of India began counting the votes for the 234 constituencies of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday (May 4), with results to follow throughout the day, the report says.

In the 2026 poll battle, the ruling DMK-Congress alliance, led by chief minister MK Stalin, is looking to retain power, while the AIADMK-BJP camp is aiming to take control of the state, as per the Hindustan Times report.

Adding a fresh twist to the contest is actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party TVK, vying for a remarkable debut, the report adds.
