The Indian police on Saturday killed two top Naxal commanders in a fierce gunfight in the eastern state of Jharkhand, officials said.
A police official was also wounded while fighting these Naxals, reports Xinhua.
The gunfight broke out in the forests of Latehar district, about 108 km northwest of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand.
"During the stand-off, two top Naxal commanders were gunned down. A third suspected Naxal was nabbed in an injured condition at the spot," said a senior police official.
The police said both the slain Naxals were wanted in many cases and carried a bounty on their heads.
According to the police, the search operation was carried out by the police contingents on specific intelligence information suggesting the presence of Naxals in the area.
New Delhi has deployed several companies of its paramilitary forces to take on Naxals in their strongholds.
The insurgency reportedly has claimed hundreds of lives besides rendering thousands of poor inhabitants homeless.
