Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad chief Nurul Haque Nur was not an “isolated incident” and that the call to ban the Jatiya Party will be reviewed from a legal perspective.

On Saturday, he said the assault on Nur was part of a deeper “conspiracy”.

“The Jatiya Party has betrayed the people with bloodshed from 1982 to 1990. They aided the Awami League during the July Uprising, and their dark history has been uncovered,” he said in Jhenaidah after the inauguration of the National University’s regional office.

“Therefore, the demand to ban the party will be evaluated legally, and actions will follow.”

The comments followed a violent clash on Friday evening in Kakrail, Dhaka, between the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad activists.

Gono Odhikar General Secretary Rashed Khan claimed after a torch procession, law enforcers beat their members when they attempted a press briefing, resulting in serious injuries to Nur, who was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
