Campaign launched to encourage students to be entrepreneurs

To encourage young minds to be entrepreneurs and bring emerging talents in the front line, a campaign has been started in Bangladesh for the students to compete the 'Global Student Entrepreneurs Awards (GSEA)'.

The Bangladesh chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organisation (EO), a global business network, has started the campaign in the universities recently.

The recent event was held on the North South University (NSU) campus on October 01 in conjunction with NSU Start-up Next & YES (Young Entrepreneurs' Society).

Senior lecturer Mirza M Ferdous in his welcome speech encouraged students to set their minds accordingly to be entrepreneurs.

He assured that the NSU business school and clubs would provide necessary support and resources to student entrepreneurs in their future ventures.

Md Zia Uddin, chairman of AFC Ltd and also president of EO Bangladesh for 2023-24, introduced EO and EO Bangladesh to the audience.

Sadat Omi, director, Elson Consumer Products Ltd and also chair of GSEA Bangladesh for 2023-24, talked about GSEA and GSEA Bangladesh.

Farian Yusuf, ex-president of EO Bangladesh, and Zareen Mahmud Hossain, director of Shasha Denim Ltd, also energised students with their speech.

Earlier, EO Bangladesh hosted this campaign at BUET on September 05 and DIU on September 12.

The upcoming campaigns will take place at DU, ULAB, UIU, BRAC, NUB, IUB and a few other places.

The deadline for registration through this links 'gsea.org/apply' is until November 07.

The Bangladesh chapter's grand finale will be in mid-January in 2024.

The prize money is Tk 0.3 million for Bangladesh. On the other hand, global winning prize is $50,000 for first, $20,000 for second and $10,000 for third place.

The EO's one of the flagship programmes is GSEA, where ongoing students who own and run businesses while attending college or university compete with their peers around the world.

Founded in 1987 by scaling-up coach Verne Harnish, the EO has more than 18,000+ business owners in more than 220 chapters and 76 countries.

EO facilitates small and large business owners to learn from each other, leading to greater business success and an enriched personal life through bonding and social networking.
