To inspire and empower the talented students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), the IUT Career and Business Society (IUT CBS) presents the fifth edition of 'INTERN', a remarkable intra-university novice business case competition that sparks ambition and ignites a drive for innovation and success.
As the curtain rises on INTERN, IUT CBS once again presents an opportunity for budding talents to showcase their potential, learn from industry experts, and make valuable connections. In the world of business case competitions, everyone starts their journey as a novice. Keeping this in mind, INTERN is designed exclusively for first-year students enrolled at IUT. This year, it is being launched as an online event. Participants are required to form teams of three to four members, with no restrictions based on department or semester.
The purpose of INTERN goes beyond traditional case competitions. It is specifically designed for first-year university students, providing them with a platform to dive into the challenges of real-life case studies from the very beginning of their academic journey. The inclusive nature of the competition is another standout feature. The competition fosters collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds, creating an environment where a variety of perspectives and skills come together.
INTERN also holds significant importance for IUT's engineering students, acting as a gateway for them to explore the business aspect of their field. It fosters a broader perspective, enabling them to thrive in today's interconnected business landscape. The competition challenges them to think strategically and consider market dynamics, bridging the gap between engineering and business domains. It also equips them with a well-rounded skill set that complements their technical expertise and prepares them for a successful career in engineering management, entrepreneurship, or interdisciplinary roles.
Participants have the chance to connect with industry professionals, potential mentors, and like-minded individuals, fostering long-term relationships that can open doors to future collaborations and career prospects. This combination of networking and industry exposure ensures a holistic learning experience that goes beyond the confines of the competition itself.
Regarding the event, the President of IUT CBS, Nazmus Sakib Rumman mentioned, "From 2020 to 2023, I witnessed INTERN's remarkable transformations beginning with just 20 teams and boosting to over 80 teams competing for domination. Despite the expansion, the core principle of competition remained the same. INTERN has continuously given first-year students a unique opportunity to demonstrate their abilities to solve business issues. This lasting part of the competition's objective, in my opinion, is more important than any external excess that may surround it."
The competition has been set up in three distinct rounds for better assessment and evaluation of participants. Each round is designed to test participants' analytical thinking, strategic planning, and presentation skills. The cases have been sketched and outlined in a way that will enable the participants to develop an insight into marketing, branding, financial breakdown, strategic solutions, and many other topics that will help them not only in the realm of business but in every sector.
The first round is set to start on June 08 where the teams will face a challenging preliminary case, requiring them to analyse the given scenario, identify key issues, and propose strategic solutions. Those who excel in this round will advance to the semi-finals, where they will be presented with a more complex and detailed case study. Finally, the top teams will advance to the ultimate showdown in the finals, where they will present their comprehensive solutions to a panel of esteemed judges and industry experts.
In addition to the competition, IUT CBS is also organising online workshops to provide valuable insights, practical tips, and guidance on navigating the cases. Moreover, the winning teams will receive monetary rewards along with an exclusive training session facilitated by industry experts. The additional training opportunity aims to enhance the winners' skills, providing valuable insights and knowledge to excel in their future pursuits.
A key member of the organising team, Ishraq Tayeem, shared, "Team INTERN 2023 is working relentlessly to make this event a grand one. We received record-breaking registrations this year, and we are confident to pull off a great event. INTERN will give the freshers an experience in real-life business scenarios and solve them using their skills. The confidence they'll gain will surely help them to shine in the bigger stages later on"
Through INTERN, IUT CBS is moving towards its commitment to fostering curiosity and nurturing the talents of aspiring business leaders.
The journey to becoming a successful professional starts here and IUT CBS is committed to providing a unique platform for students to embark on this transformative path.
