13 killed, 900,000 marooned in flash floods

At least 13 people were killed and nearly 900,000 people were marooned till Friday morning due to flash floods across the country.

Md Kamrul Hasan, the secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, gave the information at a press conference at the secretariat on Friday noon.

A total of 4,497,535 people have been affected by the floods in 11 districts. About 887,629 families in flooded areas have been trapped by the water.

According to bdnews24.com, the list of the dead included 11 men and two women. Four of them died in Cumilla, one in Feni, two in Chattogram, one in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Lakshmipur, and three in Cox’s Bazar.

The 11 districts where the flooding hit are Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar.

The floods have inundated 77 Upazilas and 584 unions and municipalities in these districts.

Heavy rain and mountain runoff have led to flooding near the end of the monsoon season.
