Bangladesh received a record $2.40 billion remittance in the just-passed September, giving some respite to the economy that has been suffering multi-pronged strains amid foreign exchange tightness.
According to data from Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country’s central bank, Bangladeshi expatriates sent $2.40 billion last month, marking the second-highest monthly remittance inflow in the last 39 months.
September’s remittance surged by over 80 per cent year-on-year compared to the $1.33 billion recorded in September 2023. Compared to the previous month’s earnings, it was also up by nearly $200 million.
