Bangladesh third largest food importer in world

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has said Bangladesh has imported the third-largest amount of food products from the global market in 2021.

According to the World Food and Agriculture Annual Statistical Booklet 2023 published by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO), Bangladesh imported around 12.5 million tonnes of food products in 2021, local news portals said.

In that year, Bangladesh produced around 93.3 million tonnes of agricultural products.

As per the report, China ranked first and the Philippines came as the second food importer in that year.

The US, UK, Germany, China and France are listed as the top five food exporting countries and Bangladesh remains near the bottom of the list.
