Md Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding this decision on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the contractual appointments of National Board of Revenue Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem and nine other secretaries were cancelled.
Non-cadre officers and third and fourth-grade employees from the income tax, value-added tax (VAT), and customs departments of NBR issued a 24-hour ultimatum on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Muneem.
A section of businessmen were also calling for the resignation of the NBR chairman, citing allegations of harassment, bribery, and corruption within various NBR offices.
